Name that shark!

Christie’s in Monaco will hold an auction tomorrow for the naming rights to an Indonesian shark. Apparently, a five year survey of marine species in the waters around Indonesia turned up 20 new species of shark, so they decided to turn naming one of them into a way to raise money for conservation. Usually naming is the province of the discoverer, but scientists have lately begun to pick up where sports stadiums leave off in offering immortality to anyone with the cash to offer. Consider the bustling industry in star naming. I  thought that was a cool idea until I found out you couldn’t see your star with the naked eye. Screw that. If I can’t guide my boat by the light of Wolff’s Star, then I’m not interested.
