San Diego Bay is TOO CLEAN. For Coastal Cleanup Day, I crawled around in zero-visibility mud water (underneath the Surprise!) for an hour and only found four or five bits of trash. Eric did better with a net on the surface, scoring some used condoms, a doll, and a hypodermic needle. Unfortunately, we forgot our camera – though the find of the day, from one of my fellow divers, was a shiny new very waterlogged digital camera.
Now onto Sunday Links:
- Emily from Oceana travels to North Carolina to watch the agony and the ecstasy of loggerhead sea turtles hatching.
- Vintage photos from the American Natural History Museum in New York. Grizzly bear attack! Flat flat elephant. Bathysphere.
- Fungus Opera. Fungus spores fly 55 miles per hour to the sweet tunes of Il Travatore.
- Got a spare $3,000? Buy the contents of a Maine lobster trap! (Via the Intersection.)

There is something VERY wrong about used condoms, a doll, and a hypodermic needle being used in the same sentence…
